The lecture series “Philosophising in the Islamic Modern World” presents aspects of philosophical discourses from different Middle Eastern language areas on the basis of debates on critique, secularity, speculative realism and modernity in a systematic and intercultural perspective. In four panels, the international guests will address various philosophical thematic fields in an interdisciplinary and intercultural way and explore the possibility of global philosophising.

Die für den 9. Dezember geplante, auf der zwei Bände der Reihe “Philosophie in der islamischen Welt”, die im Rahmen des “Grundriss der Geschichte der Philosophie” erscheinen und seit November 2021 im Buchandel erhältlich sind, musste aufgrund der aktuellen Corona-Lage leider abgesagt werden. Der Anlass, an dem auch zwei Netzwerkmitglieder beteiligt sind, wird im Frühjahr nachgeholt.

On Nov. 16th the network “Philosophy in the Modern Islamic World” is hosting a talk by Peter Adamson. In his talk he will demonstate that many features and philosophical disputes of Latin medieval philosophy were anticipated by post-Avicennan philosophy in the Islamic east.

Das Netzwerk „Philosophie in der islamischen Welt der Moderne“ veranstaltet am 12. & 13. November 2021 in Kooperation mit Personen aus dem Umfeld der Initiative „Philovernetzt“ einen Ideen-Workshop, auf dem die Frage diskutiert wird, wie Themen, Texte und Perspektiven der Philosophie in der islamischen Welt sinnvoll und für Lehrkräfte möglichst handhabbar im Philosophie- oder Ethik-Unterricht in der Schule behandelt werden können.

November findet im Rahmen des „Tags der Philosophie“ 2021 eine gemeinsame Veranstaltung (online) der Gesellschaft für Interkulturelle Philosophie (GIP, Sitz in Tübingen), der Wiener Gesellschaft für Interkulturelle Philosophie (WIGIP) und des Reinhart-Koselleck-Projekts „Geschichten der Philosophie in globaler Perspektive“ (Hildesheim) statt.

The volume „Erinnerungen an Unrecht. Arabisch-deutsche Perspektiven“ (Memories of Injustice. Arab-German Perspectives) has been published by Velbrück in the title series „Unrechtserfahrung in transkultureller Perspektive“ (Experience of Injustice in Transcultural Perspective) edited by Sarhan Dhouib. The series aims to reflect on different experiences of injustice in the Arab-German context in an interdisciplinary way. Its contributions are devoted in three consecutive volumes to the thematic complexes of (1) Language and Dictatorship (2018), Memories of Injustice (2021), and Philosophizing in Dictatorship (2021/2).
